Taking Care of your Training Investments

I came across the concept of CARE ™ by doodling on a piece of paper one day. I was preparing for some new courses. My wife was reminding me to take care with the company’s training. Not that she had to but is nice to get a reminder sometimes! So wrote CARE on a piece of paper and formed this acronym.

C = Comprehension

A= Application

R = Results

E = Excellence

So I try and bring CARE to my work. Comprehension and Application from the training brought back to the work place which can lead to Results Excellence to the companies we consult and train for.

The concept of CARE is to provide a word that describes clearly our approach to training and development. It is a theory I use in my work with HR and Organizations talent teams to ensure they derive maximum benefit and value from the work we do together. It is about putting more long lasting CARE into the efforts.

We believe in taking CARETM with your training budget in order to increase and enhance your employees KASH! What does this mean?

K = Knowledge

A = Attitude

S=   Skills

H = Habits

So, putting it together, I believe in taking CARE of your training investment by ensuring Comprehensive understanding to ensure Application of the training to the workplace, which should provide Results Excellence to the organization.

Definition of Comprehension:

capacity of the mind to perceive and understand; power to grasp ideas; ability to know.

A clear and concise understanding of the learning.

We enhance learning by using various interactive methods including multi-media.

I believe in the old eastern Proverb “I hear and forget and I see and remember but I do and understand.

Definition of Application:

the act of putting to a special use or purpose: the application of common sense to a problem.

Training is little use unless we apply in the workplace. We need to increase the VALUE of training. Begins with what the organization needs to know – the goals and objectives. The role of coaching between manager and trainee. Create organizational opportunities for application. What change will take place? The sooner applied the sooner it is retained.

Definition of Results:

something that happens as a consequence; outcome.

a desirable or beneficial consequence, outcome, or effect.

Definition of Excellence:

the fact or state of excelling; superiority;

“Results Excellence” is a partnership between provider and strategic objectives of the organization. Measuring the pay back on value in their training. The cost / benefit analysis. Cost of training vs. the perceived or real return. Serious results will come from serious objectives. It begins with the end in mind and work back. How will the organizations change? What will be improved or enhanced?
